Using SEM to Boost Your Brand

s3717198

Search Engine Marketing (SEM) is used by businesses to promote their product or services through search engines by delivering relevant content in the search listings for searchers and encourages them to click through to a site by meeting its objectives.

One technique for SEM is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). SEO is a structured approach used to “make your website more visible to people who are entering keywords associated with your product or service via search engines like Google” (Linda Kolowich Cox 2020).

“Google currently holds 87% of the total search engine market share for smartphones and 75% market share for desktop/laptop search engine market share.” “According to Andrey Lipattsev, Search Quality Senior Strategist at Google, high-quality content and link building are the two key most important signals used by Google to rank your website for search.” (Ryan Shelley, 2019).

In order to best improve your SEO, here are a few tips and tricks to improve your search engine.

Firstly, you’ll need to develop a strategy. Specifically, what are the keywords that are related to your product or service and what your consumers may be looking for? GoogleTrends is a great place to find popular keywords to optimize your search engine.

Secondly, in order to create exposure and increase shares, regularly creating quality content, such as a blog post, will drive traffic to your website. Including photos, graphs, and videos to your content can make your platforms look more professional. A great graphic designing platform to help you do this is Canva.

Lastly, ensuring that your websites loading time is fast and mobile user-friendly is a great step to take to ensure the best user experience. It has been found that around 40% of customers abandon a website that takes more than 3 seconds to load. The best way to test out your websites loading time is via Pingdom. This will also monitor your websites performance and interactions for optimal engagement.

What are your thoughts on marketing analytics and SEM? Have you found any new brands or products thanks to SEM recommendations?

I too was unaware of the loading time statistics on abandoning websites. I read a similar article once on search results and the few people that would click through to page 2. We are surprisingly lazy and inpatient. Having learnt about SEM and SEO has given me a fundamental understanding of how brands can receive authentic engagement from consumers and makes we change my technological habits as I learn more about it.

Hey Xanthe! Really good tips to help improve SEO. I didn't know about the loading time effects on people but I am definitely guilty of trying a different website if it takes too long to load.
